Meet the Staff
Ellen Klein, Owner
Before opening Hooray for Books! Ellen was a freelance writer, international trade lawyer, backpacker, NASA intern, archaeologist, and theater usher. Her favorite books are the dictionary and encyclopedia. As a bookstore owner, she doesn’t have time for hobbies – other than reading!
Patrick Hunter, bookseller
Patrick has worked at Hooray for Books! since we first opened our doors. He is our Saturday story-time guy. In addition to picture books, Patrick enjoys reading historical fiction and non-fiction, stories with strong girl characters, and adventure novels. In his spare time, Patrick enjoys listening to country music, watching rodeos and Nationals baseball games.
rena cooper, bookseller
Rena is currently a student at Alexandria City High School. She’s an aspiring writer, singer, book critic, Dungeons and Dragons player, traveler, linguist, runner, and so much more! Also, she has a never-ending list of movies and books she hopes to someday get around to. When she can’t do those things, she is definitely quoting lines from her favorite movies or, more likely, reading a book that she’ll review for the store.
Kathryn Howell Dalton, Bookseller
Kathryn's to-be-read pile continues to increase exponentially. When she's not pouring over picture books you'll find her in an epic novel with multiple plotlines, non-fiction history, or poetry. If she's not at the bookstore, she's probably at a museum or cooking something new.
Courtney Pippin-Mathur, bookseller
Courtney is an author/illustrator of picture books who loves to read all kinds of books from spooky to romance, funny to fantasy. Her most recent favorite books are Kings of the Wild, When Women were Dragons and Ithaca.
