Frequently Asked Questions

Where Can I Park?

There is metered parking along King Street. The side streets have unmetered parking with 2- and 3-hour limits. If you don’t wish to drive here, we are only two blocks from the King Street Metro Station (Yellow and Blue lines). Click here for more information about parking in Alexandria.

Do I need to register for your story times?

No. Our story times are free and require no registration.

Do I need to register for your events?

We always encourage you to register for our events. For ticketed author events, you will need to purchase the featured book from Hooray for Books! in order to get a spot in the signing line.

We are a local charity, will you donate to our upcoming fund-raiser?

We like to support our local community. If we contribute to a cause, we typically donate a gift certificate for a private (up to 12 children with adult supervision) in-store story time ($120.00 value). Please stop by or email your request to info@hooray4books.com Subject Line: Donation Request

I wrote a book, will you carry it in the store?

Congratulations! If you are a local author, please consider being part of our next Love Our Local Authors (LOLA) festival. If you are published with a large publishing house, your sales representative may already have been in contact with us, but you also can ask your publicist to contact us.

Do you sell used books?

No, but our favorite used book store, The Book Bank, is located right across the street from us.

Can my current book club meet in your store?

Yes, we are happy to host your book club, Monday-Thursday mornings, from 10:30 am forward. Slots are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

I’m a school teacher/librarian, can I get a discount?

Yes, We always offer a discount to schools paying with a school purchase order. Please contact ellen@hooray4books.com for more information.

Do you host birthday parties?

In order to keep our books looking spectacular, we do not allow food or drink in the store, including birthday treats. However, you may schedule a private story time for up to 12 children with adult supervision. Story times are 30 minutes long, and we are happy to accommodate the theme of your choosing. The fee is $10 per child.

Can I donate my used books to you?

We are a collection point for a variety of literacy groups and, on their behalf, we will gladly accept your gently used books.
