Meet the Staff

Ellen Klein, Owner

Before opening Hooray for Books!, Ellen was a freelance writer, international trade lawyer, backpacker, NASA intern, archaeologist, and theater usher. Her favorite books are the dictionary and encyclopedia. As a bookstore owner, she doesn’t have time for hobbies – other than reading!

Sue Barron, bookseller

Sue is a former teacher and now a school librarian. Her hobby is to collect signed books. She enjoys spending time reading and bowling, and playing with her grandson, Noah.

Hilary Barrineau, buyer/Events Manager

Hilary is as comfortable at Hooray for Books! as she is in the schools she's delighted to work with. The mother of two grown sons, she is especially partial to books that engage reluctant male readers. In addition to reading, she enjoys music, movies, quilting, and spending time with family and friends.

Sally Chadbourn, bookseller

Sally endorses the motto, “I’d rather be reading,” and is an ace procrastinator indulging in favorite genres:  mysteries, history, biographies, cookbooks, travel guides, and book and restaurant reviews. She previously served for 42 years as a local public school reading teacher and professional staff development trainer in literacy initiatives for teachers and parents. Now after decades leading school and library book clubs, she coordinates our Wednesday Night Book Group for adults and promotes reading among all ages and with all family members!

Stacey Daniels, events manager

Stacey joined Hooray for Books! in February 2017. A geologist by training, Stacey is a huge supporter of STEM and promoting women in science. She enjoys reading fantasy, science fiction, and dystopian stories. Stacey is a fan of YA literature and loves authors Sarah J. Maas and Marissa Meyer. When she's not at the store helping customers find the perfect book, she's likely out playing competitive ultimate frisbee!

emma davis, bookseller

Emma is in 9th grade at TC’s Minnie Howard campus.  She loves books, especially fantasy and graphic novels.  Some of her absolute favorite books are Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, The Tapestry, The Inheritance Cycle, WondLa, Caraval, The Golden Compass, Nimona, and Compass South.  In addition to books, she loves drawing, cartoons and cartooning, rollercoasters, running, ice skating, and pole vaulting.

Patrick Hunter, bookseller

Patrick has worked at Hooray for Books! since we first opened our doors. He is our Saturday story time guy. In addition to picture books, Patrick enjoys reading historical fiction and non-fiction, stories with strong girl characters, and adventure novels. In his spare time, Patrick enjoys listening to country music, watching rodeos and Nationals baseball games.

SARAH MAHONEY, marketing/bookseller

Sarah is known to stay up all night to finish a book, swears she will never do it again, and finds herself staying up doing it again the next night. She has degrees in art and visual communications, and hopes someday to be a public school teacher. She enjoys reading all genres, but is usually found with historical fiction or fantasy in her hands. Sarah grew up in Montana, but has called Alexandria home since 2000. She enjoys spending time with her husband and young daughter, and finding the next big thing in YA literature.

Ileana Reyes, Bookseller

Ileana graduated from T.C. Williams High School in 2016 and is a current student at George Mason University. Her favorite genres of books are realistic fiction and mystery. Some of her favorite books are The English Roses, If I Stay, Burn for Burn, Corduroy, The Fault in Our Stars, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, and any Dr. Seuss books. She enjoys young adult science fiction, dystopian novels, and romantic novels, with some classics thrown in. Her favorite genres are realistic and fantasy young adult books. Outside of the store, Caroline loves her various TV shows, reading, working with Hebrew students, musical theater, music in general, and playing with her cats.
